The Psychology Class

The first psychology class

What do you think is the one thing that’s holds everything together when you are talking about physical fitness? It’s how you feel about yourself and others around you. Most people just think that all one needs to do is lose the weight and then they will be fine, until they start losing the weight and find themselves experiencing emotions that either they thought were past or they knew all along they were hiding by the addictions they were indulging in (yes food can be an addiction).

This year for the challengers to be successful we need to figure out why they do what they do and then how it can be fixed. I constantly tell people that in their journey to better fitness when something from your past, whether it is an emotion or an issue comes up, that they need to dealt with it once and for all. Once dealt with the sensation of an issue finally resolved and the feeling of freedom is just, well words cannot do it any justice. I have seen many people follow that advice and many of them have gone to achieve amazing results and their consistency in being able to maintain goes up exponentially.

Pauline, the licensed counselor, did a great job and talked about the ability for them to become successful in this journey they are on. She talked about the power of positive thinking and if you think it and believe it eventually you may become it. There were a lot of questions about using food as their security and the triggers and pitfalls that can occur. One thing that she mentioned was that, as I have stated on many occasions, food is good and it is not the foods fault that we are the way we are and we need to get our minds off the weight and put it on things that we can see and achieve.

This piece is the piece of the puzzle that is the glue that makes everything stick together. You need to feel good about yourself before you can even begin a journey like this or any other for that matter. If you don’t feel good about yourself you never put a full effort into anything you do because way down deep inside, you really don’t care. Life is a chore and not really worth living on so many levels. The first and most important thing you need to realize is that life matters and your life is important and you are making a difference in so many lives, whether you believe it at first or not. Pauline said that we should write down three positive things everyday that may have happened to us. By doing this after a while you begin to look at the world from different glasses and no more will the glass be half empty but now the glass is half full.

Everyone came away from this 30 minutes meeting feeling much better about their ability to now become successful at their new journey. For the next 5 months they will be meeting with Pauline 5 more times. I am excited to see how this works out in the next six months. Stay tuned…
