THE SECOND CHALLENGE… STEP
This last week was a really good week for the weight loss challengers. Lots of workouts were done and Friday’s last chance workout was well, let’s just say some left a lot in Parkers Place. Saturday was their second challenge and this one was the Step Challenge. In this challenge they are all given a 8 inch box that they will need to step on with a starting beat of 128 beats per minute. He3re are the rules:
There is a leader up front that will be setting the pace that everyone must follow step for step
There is no resting and if you mess up the beat you have 5 seconds to get back on step with the leader
If you mess up 4 times, which could be a combination of a lot of things which could cause you to stop, you are out
Every 2 to 5 minutes the leader will be increasing the beat and you must stay with him
The beats start at 128 beat per minute and increases from there
No water breaks nor resting breaks
This challenge is to test their mental strength and cardio conditioning. As far as the mental aspect and being able to push thru the pain when you want to give up. When your lungs are burning and your heart is beating out of your chest and your body is telling you to quit. You’re sweating like you have never sweat before. The question is will you continue? Just to sweeten the pot there were prizes for first thru third place. They were gift cards from Sports Authority ($10 for third, $15 for second and $25 for first sponsored by Parkers Place).

This challenge went for 40 minutes and in the end at 200 beats per minute Mary won. Congrats to her. But in the end all won because everyone of them push beyond what they thought they could do. After that was over we had their first true weigh-in. There was one person who lost over 20 pounds and another who lost over 16 pounds. This year we started out with a total combined weight of 5321.6 and after the first week this year’s class is down 80.4 pounds in a week to 5241.2. This is just about a 4 pound loss in one week per person.
Now I know at first glance you look at the results and you say to yourself that these numbers aren’t as high as they should be for their first weigh-in. Well, as I have told many people, I keep things real. Now let me explain. If I were trying to pad the results and show big numbers I would have told them not to work out until we started in January. But I did not do that. I had them start doing general exercises 2 months prior so that the weight you are seeing come off now is true weight and not water weight. So a four or five pound loss is really good, really good.
Well here we go in week three now. There are greater things in store for them. Stay tuned!
